The map shows the area covered by the Award Group which is similar to the area covered by Lochgilphead High School.

The Open Award Group was set up by Strathclyde Regional Council, in November 1992, to operate the Duke of Edinburgh's Award within the Mid Argyll area of Argyll and Bute.

In 1995 Argyll & Bute Council, became the Operating Authority and the Award Group, along with similar Groups in the County, became part of the Community Education Dept. The Council, as Operating Authority for Argyll and Bute, is responsible to the Duke of Edinburgh's Award Scottish Office in Edinburgh, and is currently licensed by the Government to operate adventure activities.

The Award Group staff are all unpaid volunteers and provide their services free to the Council. All the Staff have Standard First Aid Certs. and most have qualifications for training participants in particular fields such as sailing and expedition work.

The Award Group is an Open Award Group which means that the Group is open to anyone who wishes to participate in the Award.

We are happy to include participants from schools, colleges, or other groups and encourage local employers to allow their staff to participate.

We are open to those who are unemployed, or who have some form of handicap and please note that we are not interested in your educational standard so do not feel left out.

Successful participation in the Award looks good on a C.V. and can help create a good impression when applying for jobs.
