The Bronze, Silver and Gold Awards all have four sections
Skills, Service, Physical Recreation and Expedition. (The Gold Award has an additional Residential Section)
All sections have to be completed to an accepted standard of proficiency and on completion properly entered in the logbook with the signatures of the instructors and examiners. It is expected that the participant will perform to the best of their ability and obtain any qualifications that their choice of subject requires i.e. - if driving is chosen as a skill the driving test should be passed or if first aid is chosen the appropriate first aid certificate gained.
When each section of the award is gained a mini certificate will be awarded for that section and when the Award level is completed the participant will be formally presented with the certificate and badge for that level. As participants work their way through each section and stage of the Award they will be given all the help and encouragement required from their instructors.
Participants are free to choose their own subjects from each section of the Award with the proviso that the necessary facilities are available to the participant and that the participant is prepared to meet any costs incurred. Often training can be obtained free or for a nominal charge.
Each section of the Award is within the reach of everyone no matter what their physical and academic abilities are, provided that they give of their best. All participants are judged on their own abilities and not the abilities of others because the Award is not competitive.
Further information on the Award can be obtained at the Duke of Edinburgh's Award Official Website http://www.theaward.org |
